Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby returned to practice on Wednesday and skated on his own. It was the start of his preparations to return to the team. He looked good on the ice, head coach Mike Johnston said. It was a full skate. He worked on some extra conditioning drills. Crosby was confirmed to have the mumps on Sunday and missed the team’s last three games. He is no longer in the infectious period. Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford also announced on Wednesday that Marc-Andre Fleury, Rob Bortuzzo and Olli Maatta were feeling under the weather and are being tested for mumps as a precaution. Fleurys test was announced on Thursday as being negative, however backup goalies Thomas Greiss became the latest player to be tested. He remains in isolation. Rutherford said he expects results from Bortuzzo and Maata shortly. We will probably get those results back in a three day period, Rutherford said.
